![]() ![]() ![]() The passage means that it is we who create morals by acting based on what we think is right. It is not that the morals pre-exist and that people must act in accordance with those morals. "The way" referred to in the Analects is the morals that should be followed for living in the real world. "The Master said, 'It is the person who is able to broaden the way (dao 道), not the way that broadens the person.' " Now, let's look at one passage in the Analects. To do that, we need to build a foundation of inner strength, and the Analects can teach us how to build that foundation. I believe it is because people feel deeply that in despite the uncertainties of any era, they want to live resilient and happy lives and not be at the mercy of the times. People have been inspired by the Analects from ancient times until the present day and they have become a source of wisdom for the multitudes, but why? The Analects are a book of ancient writings by the disciples of the philosopher Confucius, a record of the aphorisms of the father of Confucianism, who lived about 2,500 years ago during the Spring and Autumn period in China. ![]() ![]() ![]() Having been largely absent for an entire book, it is wonderful to have such beloved characters as Sarah and Ysabeau back in the thick of it. While we’re on the topic of characters, one of my favorite aspects of The Book of Life is that it sees the return of characters from the first book. ![]() Moreover, characters are given satisfying endings, with the less-than-savory individuals getting their just desserts. Everything comes together, and while room is left for sequels and/or spin-offs, no loose ends remain. Story arcs that have been featured throughout the series, such as the search for the Book of Life, are given proper resolutions, and long-standing mysteries, including what price the goddess will exact in exchange for saving Matthew’s life, are finally cracked. Fortunately, with The Book of Life, you need not worry about such things: its conclusion is both fitting and gratifying. Will all of the story arcs be given a satisfying conclusion? Will the characters receive the endings that they deserve? When you read a series, you become invested in the story, and there are few things worse in life than making it to the last book in a series only to discover that it has a terrible ending. Whenever I read the final book in a series, I am a bit nervous. TLDR: This final installment in the All Souls trilogy beautifully closes out the series. ![]() ![]() ![]() The grand finale How could I not mention this one. ![]() This is free download The Dark Portal (The Deptford Mice Trilogy) by Robin Jarvis complete book soft copy. ‘The Dark Portal’ (c) Robin Jarvis, 1989. This series threw me RIGHT off the deep end into romance land. It was contemporary, fun, fresh and I wanted to be a part of their world so badly! As I’ve said before, I’m part hopeless romantic, part skeptic. These books were really refreshing to me because it came after I had a bit of a reading slump and struggled through a couple of series (yep, after reading ACOTAR which left me with a month and a half long book hangover…) I felt a little disheartened about my reading and needed a nice relaxing series to ease me back in – this was the perfect book for that. I read them in the order listed above, and I think this makes the most sense because Anna and Etienne are mentioned in Lola’s book and Lola is mentioned in Isla’s etc. This is a series of three standalone books – it doesn’t really matter which order you read them in. Quick summary: Romantic, relaxing and bloody cute!Īlso, Stephanie Perkins’ website is the prettiest thing ever, and I would recommend reading her books based solely on her aesthetic, no shame. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() The producers Tim Bevan, Eric Fellner, and Robyn Slovo were also clearly excited at the idea of making a grown-up movie, and throughout the whole process were keen that we remained true to the spirit and complexity of the book. We decided to go in for a meeting, telling ourselves that if there was any talk of updating the story, or adding guns and car chases, then we wouldn't do it. However, we found out that le Carré was involved in the project himself, and that a director was already attached the Swede Tomas Alfredson had made the international hit "Let the Right One In," which we had seen and loved. So when my wife Bridget O'Connor and myself got the call to ask if we'd be interested in trying an adaptation, our reaction was one of extreme nervousness. ![]() ![]() ![]() He knows a love as sharp as his can cut both ways.
